Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center has hired a new director to head up its Human Resources department.
Carrie Okey joined the team at SCHHC in July. She comes with an extensive background in human resources, but in a round-about way.
Okey grew up in New Lenox in suburban Chicago and learned about giving back at a young age. As a teenager, she earned her Girl Scout Gold Award, which requires extensive pre-requisites and hours of community service, as well as a capstone community service project.
After high school, she attended college in Ashland, Wisconsin, earning her BA in Environmental Studies with a minor in Outdoor Education. Ashland is located on Lake Superior and is a destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
