BANDON – Everyone is welcome to enjoy a traditional sit-down dinner with friends and neighbors on Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25, at the Bandon Community Center (The Barn), 1200 11th St. SW in Bandon City Park. The meal will be served from 1 to 4 p.m. and is free – donations are welcome.
Meals can also be delivered to homebound Bandon residents. Reservations for meal delivery must be made by Wednesday, Dec. 20, by calling Carrie Foster at 541-260-5048 or Rosey Enderle at 907-723-0846.
Dinner will consist of Roast Turkey Breast, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Dressing, Cranberry Sauce, Rolls & Butter, Beverages & Dessert. Menu is subject to change without notice.
The meal is being organized by Bandon resident Jane Ujhazi with the help of many volunteers. Funding is by generous donations from the community via a GoFundMe account (https://gofund.me/e5d63ab7). The City of Bandon donated the use of the Community Center to cook and serve the meal. Volunteer orientation meetings are being held, with nearly 50 community-minded individuals — including a family of 15 — pulling together to help.
“When I heard there would be no annual community Christmas Day Dinner this year, it made me very sad,” said Ujhazi. “I couldn’t stop thinking about those in our community who need it most — the lonely, elderly and less fortunate folks who live here, who would otherwise have no means of having a traditional holiday meal while enjoying the camaraderie of neighbors, friends, and acquaintances.”
Ujhazi is expecting to serve approximately 300 guests and deliver 100 meals in and around Bandon.
Plan now to attend – meet your friends or make new ones, have a wonderful meal, listen to live music by Kenny Croes, Carolyn Miller, with special guest Dinari Freed, and share in the joy of the holiday season.
