Osteopathic Medicine

What is Osteopathic
Manipulative Medicine?

Osteopathic medicine is a distinctive form of medical care founded on the philosophy that all body systems are interrelated and dependent upon one another for good health. Osteopathic physicians, also known as DOs work in partnership with their patients, and are trained to focus on the whole person, rather than
just the disease.

The DO diagnoses and treats using gentle, hands-on palpation and manipulation to provide patient-specific care that promotes health and treats illness or injury. DOs believe that by correcting problems in the body’s structure, through the use of manual techniques known as osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), the body’s ability to function and to heal itself could be greatly improved. OMM can be used in conjunction with standard medical therapies to achieve the highest level of health and well-being. Dr. Noel Pense, a DO who has had extensive post graduate medical training in OMM, is now treating patients at Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center.
