Southern Coos Hospital Emergency Department

Emergency Services at Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center

As a Critical Access Hospital, Southern Coos must provide 24-hour emergency services, 7 days a week.

Southern Coos Hospital employs qualified medical staff from a company called Envision. Our providers are on-site and we have a regular rotation of physicians who provide a familiar, comforting presence to our patients.

All of our staff meet the state of Oregon’s licensure requirements. The CAH Conditions of Participation for emergency services specify that coverage may be provided by a doctor of medicine (MD) or doctor of osteopathy (DO), a physician assistant, a nurse practitioner, or a clinical nurse specialist with experience and training in emergency care.

Dr. Brett Greene, MD

Dr. Greene first trained in general surgery at Washington Hospital Center, the busiest Level 1 trauma center in D.C. He completed his training at Oregon Health and Science University Rural Medicine program in Klamath Falls, focusing on providing exceptional medical care in a resource limited setting. He has received extensive training in trauma emergencies, and point of care ultrasound, in addition to full spectrum primary care. Dr. Greene currently serves as the Medical Director of the Emergency Department. He resides in Portland with his wife, 2 children, and ever active border collie.

Dr. Richard T. Wakamiya, MD

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School, and followed with a residency in General Surgery for 3 years in San Francisco, then completed my Emergency Medicine residency in Bakersfield.   My full time career was at Kaiser South Sacramento for over 25 years, as an emergency physician, director, and as an expert in computerized medical systems.  Since retirement from full time emergency work in 2011, I have traveled overseas with medical charities, opened a cosmetic clinic in Costa Rica, and have tried to play golf every chance I get.  Meanwhile, I have worked part time in Hawaii (Molokai and Hawaii Island), Bermuda, and Maryland.    I continue live in the Sacramento area with my wife and have a son, his wife and two grandsons living closeby.  My daughter, her husband and her daughter live in Portland and my other son lives in Holland. I travel a lot, but a some of the time is spent visiting the away families.
